Lake Windermere Ferry is the only Ferry able to take cars across the Lake so reducing the need for a lengthy journey around the southern tip of Lake Windermere. The current ferry called “Mallard” holds up to 18 cars and 100 passengers and the journey between runs from Ferry Nab just south of Bowness on Windermere to Ferry House at Far Sawrey . The crossings take around 10 minutes and schedules run approx every 20 minutes in summer months .Crossings commence at 06.50 and finish at 20.50 . Far Sawrey is world famous for its association with Beatrix Potter and bus services run from the terminal to Hill Top House in the summer season. The 2008 tarrif for the ferry crossing is £3.50 for cars and 50p for foot passengers..
