Every year millions of pounds are raised for charities by people who take part in the Three Peaks Challenge - which involves climbing the highest mountains in England
Ben Nevis which is located in Scotland and is 134 metres high , Snowdon which is in North Wales 1085 metres and Scafell Pike which is located in the Lake District which is 978m the challenge was created by the more adventurous of us to Climb the three mountains within a 24 hour period with the aim of raising as much as possible for Charity.
Whilst no doubt a lot of money has been raised for charities its worth considering the work of the volunteers of the UK mountain rescues teams who each year are called out to the fell walker who gets in distress for example the lake district has 12 teams all funded from donations from the public, with the lake district being so popular it takes around £500k per year to operate and support these teams together they carried out 425 rescues, helping 557 walkers and climbers who'd got into difficulties whilst out and about in the Lake District, So if you decide to do the challenge please consider the volunteer emergency teams.
