| Troutbeck located between Windermere and Ambleside, the name dates back to 1282 located in a quiet peaceful valley, In the 9th and 10th Century Norse settlers came here finding the ground very marshy with thick forrest's, there they established small farmsteads over the years the population grew gradually turning into a delighfull village on the side of the hill.
A lot of the buildings were made of wood and mud originally but in 17th Century they were replaced with stone buildings,Most of the buldings were barns, today the barns are now converted into residential buildings still showing the heritage with small doors and low set windows and very plain looking. |
